who wants to eat salad at 9:26 pm anyway?
gawd. i. am. so. tired.
today i had to send what i thought was a seriously kick-ass email to some not-unimportant people in the public health machine in england. was i shaking in my boots when i pressed send? i sure was. i used the phrase "it is imperative that...", for godsakes. but when a friend wandered by a few minutes later and had a look at the email i had sent she actually described it as "soft". mmm.
i almost screamed tonight on the tube on the way to rugby. totally related to the stress and fatigue, i'm sure, but still! the tube is not the place to flirt loudly while testing out new ringtones on your mobile!! and the dude who sat down next to me about halfway through the voyage stepped on my toe on his way to his seat, noticed that he had done it, looked down at my toe and then DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING. ass. and THEN, a guy cut in front of me to go up the escalator on the way out of the tube and when his first ticket didn't get him through the turnstyle he made me wait behind him while he got out his other ticket, put it in the turnstyle, put the defunct ticket in his bag (cuz it might come in handy to mark his place in how to be an asshole), took the second ticket from the slot and walked through the fricken turnstyle. then the guy behind me stepped on my heel.
half of me wishes i could go shopping ahead of the going out in shoreditch that is going to happen both friday (leaving do for one of my flatmates) and saturday (leaving do for the brother of a friend) to have something new to wear cuz new is nice, and the other half of me is appalled that i take such an interest in fashion sometimes when genocide is going on in sudan. i think fatigue is contributing to this train of thought, but these dichotomies have plagued me since going to jamaica with rosemary and john ganley in 1997. who am i to wish i had more money to buy brown boots and a victorian brocade coat when people are starving in niger (and new orleans)?
ok, funny thing to end off with: after joel plaskett's set at the 100 club the other week i set off through the crowd to say hello and maybe buy his latest album. i was scanning the dimly lit room when i turned to find him about 2 inches from my face. the following "conversation" ensued:
me: Hi!
joel: Hi!
me: Hi i've known about you since you were in thrush hermit and my friend rob page introduced me to you and i think the show was really awesome
joel: Rob Page? I know Rob Page! He's a drummer with ACDC.
me:
joel: No, not in ACDC, but he drums like ACDC...
me:
joel: Yup! Give me a few minutes - they're in my case.
me: Ok! thanks.
ya, so i didn't catch up with him later cuz 1. i was mortified by my initial verbal diarrhea and 2. that whole episode was just nuts and i felt weird about it after so i thought i'd just pop into music land when i'm home and pick up a copy. pretty funny though.
