"stay off the crack!"
"and stay away from pete doherty!"
i need a voice recorder. in fact i think that's one of the features (and a mighty useful one, since i haven't used it since i got it) on my mobile. should read that damn owner's manual. cuz i'm on the bus with a backpack and two bags of groceries and a head full of numbers and i think of something, or more precisely the exact funniest way of saying something, for my blog and then by the time i get home and put down my load, and unpack the groceries, and eat dinner and shower and boot up my computer i've forgotten how exactly to put that little piece of hilarity down in text.
anyhoo, where was i? oh ya - STAY OFF THE CRACK! gotta love bands (i.e. art brut) that insert a STATEMENT, in caps, with every song. that was one. another was "when i wrote that song i hadn't had sex (that song being: bad weekend, i think). had i had sex, i might have written this song (this song being: rusted guns of milan) because i'm terrified of it". i challenge coldplay to try to beat that.
gotta love the honesty!
i'm gonna be talking in glowing terms about summer sundae for a month of them (groan). feeling pretty close to elated.
honesty was a bit of a running theme of the festival.
corb lund (canadian country band) with his ode to the bitch (the stand-up bass they cart around the globe).
one of the earlies confessing to having met "some texan assholes" when he referred to the pleasant surprise it was to find that his texan bandmates were cool guys.
sondre lerche admitting to thinking pretty much the whole audience was hearing him for the first time, so for him to play a song he wrote three weeks ago (which he did. which the crowd loved, as they did the rest of his set) would make no difference.
the magic numbers not so subtlely asking us to help them get "love me like you" into the top ten (and i plan to!).
or alfie stating self-deprecatingly that "fingers crossed [that they'd have some success with the album they released today]. cuz if that doesn't work then fuck knows. oo! sorry mate".
danced and sang and laughed so much this weekend that i was quite sad on the train back to london this morning. long live summer sundae!

oooh, i saw sondre last october & he was fabulous!! you've inspired me to put him on the old itunes right this second. did he play the solo acoustic version of dead passengers? that one made my heart skip a beat. :-)

you would have had a heart attack at this gig cuz he was alone and played every song acoustically! as rob says, he's mesmerizing....
