strawberries and cream

i think i might turn by blog into a curmudgeonly-life-commentary-cum-culinary-repository.
whaddya think o' that?!

this will start after i move to london, unpack, start my new job, and can breathe again.

i've actually been thinking about doing this for a while. i've been experimenting with making new (to me) food and getting some pretty good feedback from the friends who've been subjected to it! some examples: mocha cheesecake, hummus, polenta, mayonnaise, frites, fish pie. to be fair, some of the forays into foodie-land were spectacular failures (frites and mayo) and some were resounding successes (fish pie, polenta). so i shall perservere in my desire to be a fabulous chef. i'll be putting down some recipes on my blog so watch this space! and let me know if you have suggestions for changes/variations or if you made something yourself that you really loved. i'm always on the look-out for good ideas. my upcoming attempts will include: mayo and frites (round 2), fish cakes and a strawberry/fish somethingorother - i heard from a real life chef that strawberries complement some types of fish (assuming white, meaty types of fish like cod or haddock?) really well.

so i'm off to experiment and will report back!

having experienced some of the early experiments my thoughts are with your current company. advice you ask? beware dividing recipes in quarters...what is the quarter of a quarter cup of butter? answer: not an eighth. lesson well learned! good luck future gastronome!
