sobering
i get these automatic email send-outs from WHO on the state of various outbreaks occurring in the world. i don't often have time to read to the end, so i sort of scan the headlines. avian influenza in vietnam. 8 new human cases. marburg haemorrhagic fever in angola. 235 cases. 215 dead. people in the epicentre - uige - reluctant to report new cases because the idea of isolation (to prevent further spread) is contrary to cultural beliefs and norms. 4 newly trained red cross volunteers in the region were killed yesterday when their car was struck by lightning.
