WARNING: not suitable for children or my mom
i've been meaning to record my daily musings in the voice recorder that is part of my mobile but every time i think to use it there's someone around and i get put off the idea. i don't want to look like those people who walk around using their hands free, you know?
so what's happened...
went to a work conference from sunday to wednesday this week. it was OK. there were about 2 inspiring talks (one of which a colleague shot down when i described it to him: "that's BULLSHIT." but what do i know). a few were just plain maddening. like this one:
presenter: (describing a sex bar somewhere in london (with heavy lisp that smacked of affectation)) some of us were shocked. i mean this place is dirty. not dirty as in dirt but dirty as in the things they do there.
in the same presentation he urged us to use "culturally sensitive language" in awareness campaigns aimed at preventing outbreaks of disease in these establishments. he gave us thickies some definitions:
riming: licking around the anus.
fisting: putting the fist in the anus.
golden shower: taking/giving piss.
piss? if we are using the appropriate language (like anus instead of bum-hole for example) surely it should be urine?
and since when does who you have sex with or the activities you engage in under the duvet define your culture? no fine art, language, dance, food, architecture. just sex.
ooo, what else has been going on.
i'm definitely moving out of my flat. i told my flatmate last night and will tell the other one the next time i see him. i can't believe i stayed in this appalling dump for as long as i have, but there you are. on to pastures less fragrant...
the diy-loving flatmate had a dinner party the other night, so i thought i'd visit my fave little italian in central london to let him have the kitchen to himself. (and i'm glad i did cuz, holy crap, you should've seen it). when i was shown to my little table on the sidewalk outside the restaurant (which is also a piano bar some nights) the three people who were being seated next to me invited me to join them. after some protestation, i finally gave in (i didn't want to make a scene) and accepted their offer of a glass of white wine and some company for the evening. boy, did it ever turn out to be a lovely time! the three of them were participating in an acupuncture course for general practitioners and had only known eachother since the start of the week. dan from dundee ended up telling us about his adoption and his decision to search out his mother later in his life. claire from kent told us that when she went to register in her GP practice she presented her gun license as her i.d. because she didn't have anything else on her. the softspoken romanian called george was a chiropractor and decided to switch to general practice presumably since he realised there was such a market for consultations by patients whose backs had been messed up by chiropractors. the evening ended late with dan saying his wife had invited me to dinner in dundee (over the phone, when she called during dinner). you never know when i might be hungry in dundee.
so with all that excitement i haven't had a chance to relax or sort out the disaster area my room has become. i think i'll do that now. will report next about the 6 hour/3 intermission behemoth of a play i'm going to with clarence tonight. ciao for now.
